One of the longest-running projects for Ixim is a commitment to providing clean water to families and communities across Huehuetenango. This began with helping to build six water filtration plants in six different communities.
While these plants were successful, their reach was still limited in the mountainous and rural regions of our sister diocese. A hope to reach the most distant families led to the beginning of our home water filtration program. For over a decade, this program has expanded to affect the lives of over 50,000 people, with continued plans for expansion throughout the Diocese of Huehuetenango.
After years of pandemic-related delays, we expanded our clean water program in 2024 into two new parishes with 300 systems in each parish. We also continued to support the program’s existing parishes and replace and service older systems. There are now over 7,000 active systems in homes throughout the diocese.
