Easter Wishes From Ixim

A dull, grey blanket has covered this part of Nebraska over the past few days. Intermittent rain has fallen--sometimes a drizzle, sometimes a shower. The tops of tall buildings and some hills have disappeared. It's not unlike afternoons during the rainy season in Huehuetenango, when the clouds slowly advance through the valleys, eventually overtaking the mountain towns and turning the surrounding hills a verdant green.

These showers are moments of preparation. The dust from the roads is washed from maize crops in San Sebastián Coatán. The salt from the winter weather is flushed into the storm drains in Omaha. A new season is coming. A season of growth and new life is around the corner.

Ixim's mission is founded in this season of growth. Together with our sisters and brothers in Guatemala, we are an Easter people. We are a people transformed by our encounters with the resurrected Christ in the days spent praying and dancing and working alongside one another.

May this Easter season connect us, Christ's people in Nebraska and in Huehuetenango, as the rain falls and when the sun comes out. May we stay united in solidarity and in the resurrection.
